ambiance

I was trying to find an affordable breakfast place in the New Orleans area. Surrey’s is nice ‘n all, I just can’t afford to eat there all the time.  I was so glad to find this place near Touro hospital. Parking was a little difficult because of the construction going on in the area but it was possible. When I walked in, I was so happy to see all the locals enjoyin their breakfast.

"eggs benedict"

I had their version of eggs benedict which was corn bread, pulled pork with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. The corn bread was moist and a great canvas for the rest of the dish. The pulled pork was juicy and flavorful, and full of Southern style. And the creme de resistance was the perfectly poached egg, I love to watch with anticipation as the yolk slides down the pulled pork and onto the cornbread. This dish definitely lived up to its hype.

cheesy grits

I can never pass on cheesy grits when I see it on the menu, so I knew I had to try this. The cheesy grits were pretty disappointing. They didn’t have much flavor and I was really stoked when the waiter offered to bring over extra cheese so I could add more flavor to it. Thank God for great service! I had also gotten a coffee and when the waiter had poured it, I noticed the absence of steam and when I grabbed the mug to add cream/sweetener, the mug was lukewarm at best. I stuck my finger in it and it was borderline cold. Before I could complain about the coffee the waiter came over with a new mug and said he had brought me old coffee and had a new pot with him. Yay!
