Borgne
601 Loyola Ave
New Orleans, LA 70130
This restaurant is in the lobby of the new Hyatt hotel in New Orleans. Loyola Ave is a mess with all the construction going on.They do validate valet parking (so it’s $10) or you can do meter parking on rampart or o’keefe st. This is the newest John Besh addition to the New Orleans restaurant scene. I love the ambiance of the restaurant, it’s clean and upscale yet the wood design was very home-y and welcoming. And for all your sports ppl out there, there were a ton of huge HDTVs all along the bar.
One friend started off with the marinated crab fingers. There were a ton of these! I was seriously surprised by the quantity of crab “fingers.” And the crab flavor was wonderful.
The Creamy Canary Island goat cheese with a mojo verde sauce. The goat cheese tasted like it had been baked. It came out with a side of crackers. When I first saw this dish, I thought it was kinda unappealing. Very loud colors and it just didn’t look great. If your waiter plopped this down in front of you, would you be dying to dig in? But it tasted great.
The duck poppers were served with jalapenos and wrapped in bacon. The charred flavor was a bit overwhelming but I do love bacon. Very moist. I thought the presentation was very clean and pretty and utilitarian-friendly, the sauce was very easy to scoop up.
The 3 deviled crabs are stuffed with a creamy crab mix. These are huge and my friend was using these as a spread for the bread that came with our meal. I was surprised by the size of these. Very big!
My other friend had the fried P & J oysters amandine which came on a bed of wilted spinach. The P & J oysters are a Louisiana based company. There were a ton of oysters on this dish! He was very satisfied with his salad.
The black drum a la plancha came with brown butter, pecans and lump crabmeat. This dish was mine and it was phenomenal!!! The fish was flaky and not too heavy of a fishy flavor. The brown butter sauce only lightly complimented the fish flavor and was not heavy at all. And I loved the crunchy pecans.
To finish our night, we split the ice cream cookie. Oatmeal cookies sandwiched the Turcon ice cream which is an ice cream with nuggets. The oatmeal cookies were moist and tasty. Overall, this was a great meal!
