We were so lucky to be stayin in San Mateo because we were able to check out so many restaurants especially this Ramen Dojo. We got here when they opened on a Saturday morning and the line was halfway down the block!! I told Joe if we didn’t get into the restaurant within half an hour of opening time, that we should look at other options. The guy in front of us in line told us that as long as we were before the tree, we would definitely get seated with the first wave of customers. We got the last table! woo! thank you asian guy who eats here often!
We thought about getting different ramen bowls to make ours look different but Joe didn’t like the idea of coordinating our restaurant visit around the blog (when it should be the other way around). We both ordered the garlic pork flavored soup base which comes with 2 pieces of roasted pork, fried whole garlic, kikurage mushroom, fresh green chives, 1 quail egg. Joe got extra quail eggs on his.
With the selection of extra toppings, I went with the extra fried garlic. The broth was perfect and complex, and the noodles were cooked to a good texture (closer to the stiff end of the spectrum versus the overcooked soggy end). My topping of the fried garlic definitely added way more flavor. Omg, I loved this bowl of ramen so much! definitely made up for all those bad memories of midnight instant ramens in college.
